Sure and Wrong
A machine's 'confidence' isn't truth — it can be sure and wrong.

Kavi and the Machine That Was Sure
Kavi the owl asks a question machine, "How many legs does a spider have?" It answers at once, flashing a big badge: "I am 100% SURE — six legs!" Kavi tilts her head. She has counted a spider's legs herself: eight. "You sounded so certain," she hoots, "but being sure isn't the same as being right. A machine can be sure and wrong." She smiles. "So I won't trust the badge. I'll check."
What your child will learn
A peek inside
Try this at home: What does a machine's 'confidence' tell you?
Questions parents ask
+What does a machine's 'confidence' actually mean?
It only tells you how sure the machine SOUNDS. A machine or AI can flash '100% sure!' no matter what — that is a measure of how certain it seems, not proof that the answer is correct.
+If an AI sounds 100% sure, does that make its answer true?
No. A machine can be totally confident and still be wrong. Confidence is how sure it sounds; truth is whether it is actually right. They are two different things, so sounding sure never proves an answer is true.
+How can my child tell whether a confident AI answer is actually correct?
By checking it, not by trusting how sure it sounds. Compare the answer against a trusted source — a good book, an expert, or a grown-up. If two answers both sound 'very sure', only checking can tell you which one is true.
