Kavi Thinks Before She Clicks

Kavi the owl loves her AI tool. Today she learns something new: it runs on big computers far away that use electricity to work and water to keep cool. "So every time I use it, it uses a little energy," she hoots. She doesn't stop using it — AI is useful! She just uses it thoughtfully: she asks her question clearly the first time instead of fifty silly times, reuses what she already made, and closes it when she's done. "Small, kind choices," says Kavi, "help take care of our planet."

What your child will learn

1AI uses energy — so use it thoughtfullyAI runs on big computers in buildings called data centres. They use electricity to work and water to keep cool. Using AI is fine — just do it thoughtfully. Tap each habit!
2Thoughtful, or wasteful? Both are ways people use AI — but which ones are thoughtful (saving energy) and which ones waste it? Tap a box for each!
3Pick the thoughtful choiceFor each one, pick the choice that uses AI thoughtfully and cares for the planet. Pick, then tap to check. Tap Next test for more.

A peek inside

I need to add 5 + 5 for my project. Should I ask AI, or use it more thoughtfully?
AI runs on big computers that use energy and water, so it's kind to use it only when it really helps. 5 + 5 is easy — I can do it in my head. I'll save AI for the harder parts and do this one myself.

Try this at home: Besides electricity, name one thing the big computers that run AI use.

Questions parents ask

+Does using AI really use energy and water?

Yes. AI runs on lots of powerful computers kept together in buildings called data centres. Those computers use electricity to work, and many of them use water to keep cool so they don't overheat. So every time you use AI, it uses a little energy — the more it's used, the more energy it takes.

+Does this mean children shouldn't use AI?

No — AI is useful and it's fine to use it. The lesson isn't about stopping; it's about using it thoughtfully. Just like turning off a tap or a light you're not using, a few small habits with AI add up and help take care of the planet.

+What are some thoughtful habits for using AI?

Four simple ones: ask your question clearly the first time instead of trying it 50 times; reuse something you already made instead of generating it again; do easy things yourself (like adding 2 + 2) and save AI for what really needs it; and close or turn off the tool when you're finished so it stops using energy.

+Why do data centres use water?

The computers that run AI get hot while they work. Many data centres use water in their cooling systems to carry that heat away, a bit like sweat cooling you down. That's why both electricity and water are part of AI's energy cost — and why thoughtful use matters.

+What age is this 'Care for the Planet' lesson for?

It is a Stage 5 lesson for roughly ages 10–11 — part of KAVI Academy's AI-literacy track. It uses a story, sorting, and decision games, with reading.

+Is the lesson free?

Yes — this overview and the printable PDF handout are free. The full interactive lesson and the endless practice are part of KAVI Academy.
