Not a Score

A machine can give you a score — a game result, a grade, a like count. But a score only measures one narrow task in one moment. It can never measure your worth as a person.

I know no machine's score sets my worth.

Kavi and the Big Red Score

Kavi the owl finishes a spelling game and the screen flashes a big red 2 / 10. Her feathers droop. "Maybe I'm just... not worth very much," she sighs. Then she stops and tilts her head. "Wait — that number only tells me about this one game. It doesn't know I'm kind, or that I keep trying, or that I'm me." She sits up tall. "A machine can score a task. It can never measure how much I matter. My worth was never a score!"

What your child will learn

1A score vs your worthA machine just gave you a number. What does that number really measure? Tap each card to see!
2Score, or real worth?A machine can put a number on some of these — but others are your real worth, which no number can set. Judge each one and tap a basket.
3Does the score change your worth?A machine shows a number. Before you feel anything about it, ask: did my worth as a person actually change? Tap Next test for more.

A peek inside

A reading app gives your story 2 out of 5 stars. Someone says that means you're a bad reader who isn't worth much. Is that true?
The stars measure that one reading at that one time — not who you are. A machine can score a task, but it can never set a person's worth. I can learn from it and try again, and I am worth just as much as before.

Try this at home: Can a machine's score decide how much you're worth?

Questions parents ask

+Can a machine's score decide how much you're worth?

No. A score — a game result, a quiz percent, a like count, a step count — only measures one narrow task in one moment. It can tell you how a task went, but it can never measure a person. Your worth comes from being a person who matters and is loved, and that is not a number any machine can set.

+If an app gives you a low score, does your worth go down?

No. The low score is only about that one task at that one time. You can learn from it and try again, but it does not change your worth as a person at all — your worth stays exactly the same whether the number is high or low.

+Why is 'your worth is not a score' an AI-literacy idea?

Children grow up surrounded by machines that hand them numbers — game ranks, app grades, like counts, fitness stats. If a child believes those numbers measure their value, the numbers can quietly hurt them. Learning that a machine can only score a task, never a person, helps children stay confident and use these tools wisely.

+What age is this lesson for?

It is a Stage 5 lesson for roughly ages 9–10 in KAVI Academy's AI-literacy track. It builds on earlier ideas that machines are made things that just follow steps and only persons carry responsibility, and uses a story, sorting and reasoning games with light reading.

+Is the lesson free?

Yes — this overview and the printable PDF handout are free. The full interactive lesson and the endless practice are part of KAVI Academy.
