Kavi and the Made-Up Quote

Kavi the owl asks a helper for a wise quote. The helper answers fast and sure: "Albert Einstein said, 'Always charge your phone to 100%!'" Kavi blinks. "Einstein lived long ago — phones like that didn't even exist then. He could never have said that!" The helper had made up a fake quote. "A quote can sound real," hoots Kavi, "and still be invented. Always check who really said it!"

A peek inside

A helper gives me a quote: Abraham Lincoln once said, 'I love the internet.' Is it real?
Lincoln lived in the 1800s and died long before the internet existed. He could not talk about something that was not invented yet. So this quote is impossible — the AI made it up.

Questions parents ask

+Can an AI make up a quote?

Yes. An AI can write out a quote and say a famous person said it — even when that person never said those words. It can sound real and wise, but it is made up. That is a fake quote.

+What is a fake reference?

A fake reference is a book, article, or website an AI names to back up its answer — but the book or author does not really exist. The AI invented it to look sure, so you have to check that the source is real.

+How can a child catch a fake quote or reference?

Check it. Search for the exact words in a trusted source, or look up whether the book is in a library catalog or bookshop. If no trusted source has the quote, or no library has the book, it may be made up. A tell-tale sign is an impossible fit — like a person talking about the internet who lived long before it existed.

+Does an exact page number or date prove a reference is real?

No. Fake references can include exact-looking page numbers and dates to seem real. Those details do not prove anything on their own — you still have to find the source in a trusted record.

+What age is this 'Fake Quote or Reference' lesson for?

It is a Stage 4 lesson for roughly ages 9–10 in KAVI Academy's AI-literacy track. It builds on earlier lessons about confidently-wrong answers and checking a trusted source.
