Kavi Races the Calculator

Kavi the owl races a calculator at adding big numbers. Beep — the calculator finishes first, every time! Kavi feels small. "It's faster than me… am I worth less?" Then Kavi stops. "Wait — being fast at sums is just its job. It can't wonder, it can't care, it isn't loved like I am." Kavi grins. "My worth was never a race. My worth isn't my speed — I'm worth so much more!"

A peek inside

A calculator adds faster than me. Does that make it worth more than me?
The calculator is faster at one job — sums. But worth doesn't come from speed. I'm a person who is loved and can care and wonder. So no — it isn't worth more than me.

Questions parents ask

+If a computer is faster than me, is it worth more than me?

No. Being faster at a task — like adding big numbers or searching — does not make something worth more. Your worth comes from who you are: a real person who is loved, who can care, wonder, and choose. A machine has none of that. You are worth far more than any machine, no matter how fast it is.

+Why is a machine faster at some things?

A machine is built to do one kind of job very quickly, like adding numbers or looking things up. That is a tool doing its job well. Speed is just how fast a task gets done — it says nothing about how much a person is worth.

+Where does my worth come from, then?

From who you are, not from what you can do fast. You are a person — loved by your family, able to care about others, to wonder, to choose right from wrong, and to be one-of-a-kind you. None of that depends on being quick.

+Should I feel bad when AI beats me at something?

No. A calculator beating you at sums is like a bike being faster than your legs — it is just a tool made for that job. It does not make you less. Your worth was never a race, and it never was your speed.
