Kavi Gets Unstuck

Kavi the owl is stuck on a tricky problem. She opens the AI helper — but she does NOT ask for the answer. She asks, "Can you explain how this works?" She reads it, thinks it through, then tries again on her own — and gets it! "I used AI to learn," hoots Kavi, "not to skip. Now I can do the next one by myself!"

A peek inside

You're stuck on why ice floats. You ask AI to explain it, read it, then tell a friend in your own words. Did you learn or skip?
I didn't just grab an answer — I asked AI to explain, then I did the thinking and could say it myself. That means I can do it without AI next time.

Try this at home: What's the one test for whether you LEARNED or SKIPPED after using AI?

💬

Questions parents ask

+How can a child use AI to learn instead of to skip?

Use AI to EXPLAIN a step you're stuck on, to give a hint, or to CHECK work you did yourself — then do the thinking and the next problem on your own. You're skipping when you copy its answer without reading, paste its work as your own, or hand in something you can't explain. The simple test: after using AI, can you do it yourself?

+Is using AI to do homework cheating?

It depends on how you use it. Using AI to help you understand — explain, hint, check — is learning, as long as you still do the thinking. Using AI to produce an answer you copy and hand in without understanding is skipping the learning, and most schools count that as cheating. The honest question is always: did I actually learn it?

+What is the test for whether I learned or skipped?

Ask yourself: can I do it myself now, and explain it in my own words? If yes, you used AI to learn. If you still can't do it without AI, you used it to skip — the learning didn't happen.
