Kavi Plans a Maze

Kavi the owl wants to make a little maze game. She doesn't ask an AI to "make a game" — instead she plans it herself: draw the walls, add a player dot, make it move, add a "You win!" message. One step is tricky — the moving code — so she asks an AI to build just that one part. "The plan is mine," hoots Kavi, "and the AI builds one part. Then I check it fits!" That's how you plan a build and let AI do a part.

A peek inside

I want to make a maze game. How do I plan it and let the AI build one part?
First I PLAN: the idea is a maze game; the steps are draw the walls, add a player dot, make it move, add a 'You win!' message. Then I pick ONE tricky part — the moving code — and ask the AI to build just that. The rest is mine.

Try this at home: When you plan a build, who makes the list of steps — you or the AI?

Questions parents ask

+How do you plan a build and let AI do one part?

First YOU plan the whole thing: pick the idea, break it into small steps, and work out the order. Then you choose ONE part that is tricky — like the score counter or the maze walls — and ask the AI to build just that piece. You keep the plan and all the other parts, then check the AI's part fits and works. That way you stay in charge of your own build.

+Why should the child make the plan instead of the AI?

Because planning is how you understand and lead your own build. If the AI makes the whole plan, you are no longer the one deciding. When YOU break the idea into steps and the AI only builds one part you asked for, you learn more and the work is truly yours.

+What does 'break a big idea into steps' mean?

It means splitting a big build into small, clear steps so you can plan it and tackle one at a time — this is called decomposition. For a maze game the steps might be: draw the walls, add a player dot, make it move, then add a 'You win!' message.
