Kavi's Space Poster

Kavi the owl has a great idea for a space poster, and asks an AI to help colour it in. When her friends cheer, she nearly says, "I made it all myself!" — then stops. "The idea was mine," she tells them honestly, "but the AI helped with the colours." Her friends smile. "Giving credit is easy," hoots Kavi, "and the idea is still truly mine!"

A peek inside

The idea was mine, but an AI coloured my poster. My friends ask, "Did you make it all?" What is the honest thing to say?
Did I make every part? No — the AI did the colouring. The idea was mine, so I own that and I credit the AI for the colours.

Questions parents ask

+Is work my own if an AI made it?

No. If the AI wrote it, drew it, or worked out the answer, that part is the AI's work, not yours. Your own work is what YOU thought of and made. The honest thing is to say how the AI helped — like 'an AI coloured this poster for me' — and never pass the AI's work off as your own.

+How do I give credit when an AI helps me?

Just say so, in plain words: 'I used an AI to help with the colours', or 'an AI gave me the first idea and I wrote the rest myself'. Giving credit means telling people what the AI did and what you did. It keeps you honest and still shows the part that is really yours.

+Why does it matter if I say an AI helped?

Because putting only your name on work an AI made is passing it off as your own — that is not honest, and it hides what you can really do. When you give credit, people trust you, and you still get to be proud of the part you truly did.
