Made to Help Us
A machine is built to help people do what WE want — we don't serve it. I'm the boss.

Kavi Is the Boss
Kavi the owl uses a drawing app to make an owl picture. "Good — that's what I wanted!" she hoots. Then the app flashes: "Keep going! One more! Don't stop!" Kavi stops and thinks. "Wait — this machine was made to help me. I'm not here to serve it." She finishes her picture and taps the button to close the app. "A machine helps me do what I choose. I'm the boss — I can always put it down!"

Questions parents ask
+Why teach children that a machine is 'made to help us'?
Children use apps and AI helpers every day, and some are designed to keep them tapping. The grounding idea is that a machine is a tool people built to help people — it serves us, we don't serve it. When a child knows that, they stay the boss: they can use the machine for what they want, and put it down, turn it off, or walk away when it isn't helping.
+How do I know if a machine is helping me or I'm serving it?
Ask one question: who is this for? If the machine does a job you chose — finds a picture, plays your song, times your rest — it is helping you. If you are doing what the machine wants at the cost of what you need — skipping dinner to keep playing, watching one more just because it auto-played — you've flipped it, and it's time to put it down. A good machine serves you.
+Can I just turn a machine off?
Yes. A machine is a tool, and you are in charge of it. You can pause it, turn it off, or walk away any time — you never owe a machine your time. Telling a grown-up when an app makes it hard to stop is also a smart, strong thing to do.
