Kavi's Kind Message

Kavi the owl sees her friend's drawing on the screen. She starts to type a silly joke to tease it — then stops. "Wait," she hoots. "My friend will read this. A screen hides her face, but her feelings are real!" So Kavi types instead: "😊 I love the colours!" Her friend sends back a big smile. "Kind words travel through a screen too," says Kavi. "Before I send, I'll always ask: would this be kind?"

A kind comment is friendly and true. I can say something nice about her cake that will make her happy to read.

Questions parents ask

+How do you teach kids to be kind online?

Remind them that a screen hides the face, but there is still a real person on the other side who reads what you send and feels it — even far away. A simple rule works best: before you send a message or picture, ask 'Would this be kind?' If it could hurt someone, don't send it. Kind words like 'Great job!' make a real person happy; teasing or laughing at a mistake can hurt.

+Can words and pictures on a screen really hurt someone?

Yes. Even though you cannot see the person's face, a real person reads your message and sees your picture, and unkind words or teasing photos can hurt their feelings just like unkind words said out loud. The distance and the screen do not take the hurt away.

+What age is this 'Be Kind Online' lesson for?

It is a Stage 3 lesson for roughly ages 8–9 — part of KAVI Academy's AI-literacy track. It uses a story, sorting and decision games with light reading.

+Why is online kindness part of AI literacy?

Children chat, comment, and share pictures through apps and AI-powered tools from a young age. Learning early that a real person is always on the other side — and that kind words and pictures matter — builds the habit of thinking before they send, which keeps online spaces safe and friendly.

+Is the lesson free?

Yes — this overview and the printable PDF handout are free. The full interactive lesson and the endless practice are part of KAVI Academy.
