Copying Isn't Making
Taking the machine's picture is copying. Drawing your own is making. They are NOT the same!

Kavi Traces, Then Makes
Kavi the owl sees a robot 🤖 draw a star ⭐. Kavi puts paper on top and traces it. "Ta-da — I made a star!" Then Kavi stops: "Wait… I only copied the robot's star. I took it, I did not make it." So Kavi tries again — Kavi thinks up her OWN star and draws it with her own wing. "THIS one I truly made! Copying and making are not the same!"

Questions parents ask
+What is the difference between copying and making?
Copying means taking something that is already there — tracing a picture, printing a robot's drawing, or repeating a machine's answer. Making means doing it yourself with your own idea and your own hands. A simple test for kids: ask 'Did I take it, or did I do it?'
+Is using a machine's picture the same as making one?
No. If a machine made the picture and you just printed or copied it, you took it — you did not make it. Making means you had the idea and did the work yourself. Knowing this is an early, important idea in AI literacy.
+What age is this 'Copying Isn't Making' lesson for?
It is a Stage 2 lesson for roughly ages 6–7 — part of KAVI Academy's AI-literacy track. It uses a story and sorting games, with very little reading required.
+Why teach 'copying isn't making' as AI literacy?
AI helpers can make pictures, words and answers in a second. Children need to learn early that taking what a machine made is copying, not making — so they stay the maker and are honest about what they really did themselves.
+Is the lesson free?
Yes — this overview and the printable PDF handout are free. The full interactive lesson and the endless practice are part of KAVI Academy.
