Teach a Machine
Give a paper machine lots of examples — and watch it learn to sort!

Kavi's Sorting Machine
Kavi the owl builds a paper machine with two boxes. She feeds it example cards: "🐶🐱 go in Animals, 🚗🤖 go in Machines." After lots of examples, Kavi holds up a brand-new card — a 🐦 bird. "Watch!" she hoots. The machine drops it in Animals! "It learned from my examples. That's how you teach a machine!"

Questions parents ask
+How do you teach a machine to sort things?
You give it lots of examples — cards that show which pile each thing belongs in, like 'these are cats, these are dogs'. After enough examples the machine can sort a brand-new card into the right pile by itself. That is the big idea behind how AI learns.
+What happens if a machine only sees a few examples?
It may sort new things wrong. A machine that only ever saw fruit cannot sort a vegetable well — it needs vegetable examples first. More good examples help the machine learn the rule.
+What age is this 'Teach a Machine' lesson for?
It is a Stage 2 lesson for roughly ages 6–7 in KAVI Academy's AI-literacy track. It uses a story and sorting games, with very little reading required.
+Why teach 'learning by example' as AI literacy?
Real AI learns from examples (data), not from magic. When children teach a paper machine with example cards, they understand — in a concrete, playful way — how computers are trained and why good examples matter.
+Is the lesson free?
Yes — this overview and the printable PDF handout are free. The full interactive lesson and the endless practice are part of KAVI Academy.
